Does the Unitek EMT Paramedic program offer courses near me?

The Unitek Paramedic Program is located in Tempe, Arizona, and welcomes students from across the country. Our campus is convenient for students throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area, including Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Glendale, and Phoenix, as well as surrounding Arizona communities. Many students also travel from other states to attend the program and complete their paramedic training at our Tempe location.

What is the dress code for the Paramedic training program?

Students in the Paramedic Program wear a professional uniform during training to reflect real EMS workplace expectations. Four program polo shirts are provided, which should be worn with blue or black work pants. Durable black boots are also required, as students will participate in hands-on labs, simulations, and field-based training throughout the program.

Will Unitek EMT’s Paramedic training work in my state?

Yes. Graduates are prepared to pursue National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification, which is widely recognized across the United States. Once nationally certified, paramedics typically apply for licensure in the state where they plan to work through their state’s Department of Health or EMS regulatory agency. Many states offer reciprocity, allowing certified paramedics to transfer credentials more easily.

How do I register for the Paramedic program?

The fastest way to begin the enrollment process is by speaking with a Unitek admissions representative who can guide you through program requirements, application steps, and start dates. Because the program offers limited seats and hands-on instruction, prospective students are encouraged to apply early. Enrollment is typically granted on a first-come, first-served basis once all admissions requirements are completed.

How should I prepare for my first day of Paramedic training?

Once accepted into the program, students will receive an admissions and orientation package that includes important details about schedules, materials, and campus information. If you are traveling to attend the program, arriving the day before training begins is recommended so you can settle in and be prepared for your first session. On your first day, you will check in on campus, meet instructors, and receive an overview of the program expectations and training environment.

What kind of training will I receive in the Paramedic program?

The program combines classroom instruction, simulation-based labs, clinical experience, and field training to prepare students for real-world emergency medical situations. Students develop advanced patient assessment skills, learn critical lifesaving procedures, and practice decision-making in high-pressure scenarios. This comprehensive training prepares graduates to deliver advanced life support and function confidently as entry-level paramedics in modern EMS systems.

A Career as a Paramedic

A career as a paramedic is a high-stakes, physically demanding profession centered on providing advanced emergency medical care. Paramedics are vital to their communities, often serving as the first line of defense in life-or-death situations such as cardiac arrests, traumatic accidents, and natural disasters. Beyond their traditional role of rapid response and stabilization, they increasingly fulfill critical gaps in the healthcare system through community paramedicine. In this capacity, they provide preventative care, health education, and chronic disease management to underserved populations, which helps reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and hospital readmissions.

Financially, the profession offers a range of earnings based on experience, education, and geographic location. According to May 2024 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for paramedics is $58,410. While entry-level earners in the lowest 10 percent make less than $40,130, highly experienced paramedics or those in specialized roles can earn more than $82,420. The field is also seeing steady demand, with employment projected to grow through 2034, driven by an aging population and the continued need for emergency response services.

Paramedic Program Admissions Requirements

To be eligible for enrollment in the Paramedic Program, applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (see acceptable documentation below*)
  • Current, unrestricted Nationally Registered EMT and/or Arizona state EMT
  • Current AHA BLS Provider card
  • Current Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Successful background check:

“The National Registry may deny an applicant eligibility to sit for a certification examination, deny certification, suspend or revoke an individual’s certification, or take other appropriate action with respect to the applicant’s certification or recertification based on an applicant’s felony criminal convictions and all other criminal convictions (whether felony or misdemeanor) relating to crimes involving physical assault, use of a dangerous weapon, sexual abuse or assault, abuse of children, the elderly or infirm and crimes against property, including robbery, burglary and felony theft” (NREMT, 2026). Please review NREMT Policy 51.05 ‘Criminal Convictions’ and contact an advisor or the Program Director with questions. Unitek EMT & Paramedic supports the training and job placement of individuals with criminal history; however, students must be able to qualify for certification.

  • Successful 10-panel drug test
  • Successful Interview with Program Director or his/her designee
  • Required Immunizations/tests (requirements for both Unitek Paramedic and Clinical partners). Immunizations and tests include:
  1. Varicella, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B series, or signature by student on a waiver declining the series.
  2. Influenza (‘Exempted Status’ can be requested, please talk to your advisor prior to application for information.)
  3. COVID-19 and current series of boosters (‘Exempted Status’ can be requested, please talk to your advisor prior to application for information.)
  4. Negative Tuberculosis skin test.
  5. Proof of a recent negative result of an IGRA test (QuantiFERON, T-Spot) OR current Mantoux Method PPD 2-step process.
  6. All Paramedic students will be required to have personal health insurance before they can begin their clinical and field rotations.

*Proof of High School Completion

Applicants must provide proof of high school completion or higher education prior to enrollment. Acceptable forms of documentation include:

  • A copy of a U.S. high school diploma or official transcript from a:
    • State-approved school
    • U.S. Department of Education-recognized institution
  • A General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate
  • A certificate of homeschooling completion from a recognized state-approved or U.S. Department of Education-approved program
  • An Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree or transcript from a U.S. Department of Education-accredited college or university
  • For foreign education, an evaluation of equivalency by a recognized credential evaluation agency

Paramedic Campus

Our mission is to help EMS professionals advance their careers through focused, high-quality paramedic training. Our training facility includes multiple classrooms, a dedicated student lounge, and spaces designed to support hands-on EMS education. Students also have access to administrative offices and student support services, including career guidance and program resources to help them succeed during training and beyond.
